Gloucester City Council - Late Night Levy?

10 Mar
2016

It is understood that Gloucester City Council and Gloucestershire Constabulary are in initial discussions regarding the introduction of a Late Night Levy for premises in the  Gloucester licensing district which operate beyond 12 midnight.  Gloucestershire Constabulary already benefit from funds raised by the Late Night Levy adopted by Cheltenham Borough Council. However, local operators have commenced a campaign to promote the adoption of a Business Improvement District as an alternative to the Late Night Levy.

Justin Hudson Chairman of Gloucester LVA stated that “We are all aware there have been cuts and somewhere the books have to be balanced. I would rather my members made voluntary contributions to a scheme which makes more money than begrudgingly paying a levy. A BID would be an absolute no brainer and I am confident this is what we need to do”. The initial consultation document is scheduled to be placed before the Licensing Sub Committee in June and as yet there is no indication as to whether any exemptions will be permitted.

As the proposals develop we will continue to update you.
